Well if you haven't heard the news, there is light at the end of the tunnel; restrictions easing allowing us to enjoy the sweet, summer sun.
We now have a goal to work towards, and to look forward to.
So kick the dust off the old running shoes, squirt some grease on the bike and shake off the yoga mat. Start now, and you'll thank yourself later.
"Where do I start?" you may ask...
Firstly you need to make a conscious effort for self improvement, and hold yourself accountable. This can be harder than it sounds; find a partner to help you, you'll both hit slumps and need to push each other through.
Start small, we need to start getting back into our healthy habits and shake off the bad ones. List 3 bad habits that will hinder you achieving your goals and how you will combat these.
Get enough sleep - Start going to bed and getting up a little earlier, reset your body clock and give yourself more hours in the day.
Adjust your diet - Add new or better eating habits to your routine, set times for your meals help minimise the snacking. Keep fruit and nuts close, instead of reaching for the cookies.
Get active for at least 20 min a day- Now for most this would be a jog, a workout, yoga etc but for others it may be harder to find the motivation, just going for a brisk walk, or doing some gardening is a good start
Set reminders - We want to start making good habits, and the easiest way is to set daily reminders, some apps even do this for you. This is a good way of holding yourself accountable, it may start off annoying but once this is a habit you won't even need the reminders.
Focus on bite sized results - While it's important to set your end goals, it's hard to stay motivated when you're tired and cold, just not in the mood or don't want to start. Focus on the closer, achievable results and rewards to stay motivated. How good will you feel afterwards? Chase the high you feel after your workout, waking up early, or your day of eating healthy.
There's no fast track to getting back in shape or getting fit; often its the long journey that ends up demotivating us.
Our goal is to help make your healthy lifestyle sustainable, and get you back on track. By focusing on even a few of the above, and forming good habits you'll find this journey a little more enjoyable.
