Get out of the lockdown slump and start the new year with a bang! At the start of every year we usually make new resolutions so we can make positive changes and improve our lifestyles. The most common resolutions are to lose weight, eat healthier and exercise more. This year stay ahead of the curve with this cheeky hack. Instead of starting on January 1st, start your journey on December 1st. Whilst everyone is beginning their journey’s you will already be one month into yours so even if you indulge a little around Christmas time you will still look and feel your best.
10,000 steps – Go for a walk and get some much needed fresh air. Smartphones, FitBits or pedometers allow you to track the number of steps you take and usually have 10,000 steps as the default goal. 10,000 steps usually would take around 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk. This might seem quite excessive but adjust the number of steps to suit you and your lifestyle. There is no concrete evidence of 10,000 steps being the ideal amount to walk in a day.
Home Workouts – With gyms and fitness centres being closed, this is the perfect time to start working out from the comfort of your own home. There are so many free workouts to choose from to match your exact needs. For example, if you are trying to lose or gain weight in a certain part of your body or if you would prefer a workout with no jumping and no equipment there will be a workout out there for you! I have been trying out the Chloe Ting 2 Week Shred Challenge and with very minimal change to my diet I have lost 1.5kg and can feel a difference in my stamina already.
Skipping – Did you know jumping rope can burn 25% more calories per minute than running? Jump ropes are really inexpensive and an effective form of exercise that you can do in your own living room. It is a full body workout and gets your heart rate going.
It will tone your calves, improve your lung capacity, build your stamina and tone your calves. However, as with any exercise you need combine this cardio with another form of exercise for effective weight loss.
Christmas time means delicious and indulgent food but it is not necessarily the healthiest. Jump starting your new year’s resolution in December will allow you to loosen the reigns and eat whatever makes you happy with minimal consequences on your health. So, have that extra slice of Christmas pudding or apple pie when Christmas comes around.
If you are like me and can’t resist that extra slice, then here are some tips on eating to stay fit! When you start dieting I find it is best to not throw yourself in the deep end of things. Start with a few small changes that you think are the biggest problems for you. Being at home in lockdown I find myself snacking quite a lot throughout the day. One of my biggest goals for December is to stop snacking or snack on fruits or something a bit more healthier.
Try out Love Yourself Meals if you struggle with eating healthily. Not only do we provide 3 delicious meals, the package also includes morning and afternoon snacks as well as a smoothie. You will be completely satisfied and be on track to achieve your goals whatever they may be.
